Read Ron’s Story
It’s a true one-stop community.
Why I chose to move to Maple Court Retirement
Ron’s journey to Maple Court Retirement began during a time of profound change. After losing most of his eyesight and experiencing the passing of both his sister and his beloved dog, he knew he needed a place that felt safe, secure, and supportive. Choosing Maple Court became an important step toward stability and renewed connection.
A smooth and welcoming transition
Ron’s transition was smoother than he expected. He appreciated no longer needing to cook for himself, and he was especially surprised by the kindness of the team. Whenever he needs something, staff are ready to help and do their very best to accommodate him. That sense of care has made Maple Court feel like home.
“
It feels like a small town where everyone knows each other.
”
My favourite part of life here
What Ron values most is the small-town familiarity within the community. Everyone knows one another, friendships form easily, and laughter is shared often between residents and team members. These daily moments of connection bring warmth and meaning to his life.
Activities I enjoy and staying connected
Ron enjoys social gatherings—what he fondly calls a good “chinwag.” Spending time talking, sharing stories, and simply being together is one of the greatest joys of his day.
Advice for someone considering retirement living
Ron’s advice is heartfelt and practical: don’t stay alone in your room. Even if you don’t feel like participating, come sit in the common areas, take a walk, or join an activity. Being present opens the door to friendship and belonging.
The meaningful work and connections that shaped my life
Agriculture shaped much of Ron’s life and career. He supported farmers by helping install and train them to use milking machines. He has always been a people person, caring deeply about understanding others and hearing their stories. He also treasures the simple traditions of family life—especially Sunday roast beef dinners shared with loved ones and friends.
Who inspires me now
One of Ron’s earliest inspirations was a gentle farmer he knew as a child, a quiet and kind man whose soft-spoken nature left a lasting impression. That example helped shape the compassionate person Ron strives to be today.
Rediscovering friendship and connection
Since moving to Maple Court, Ron has rediscovered a sense of purpose in helping others. He makes a conscious effort to listen, encourage, and remind fellow residents that life is richer when people look beyond themselves and support one another.
How life has changed for the better
With meals, laundry, and housekeeping taken care of, Ron can focus on connection, gratitude, and enjoying each day. He describes Maple Court as a true “one-stop” community that provides comfort and care when people need it most. He would absolutely recommend Maple Court Retirement as a place of kindness, friendship, and peace of mind.
